Record group RG 83-46 consists of constitutional documents of the state of Michigan for the years 1835-1908. Comprised of manuscript copies of five Michigan constitutions, three of which were actually approved by the citizenry. The texts of the documents which were accepted by the electorate can be found in volume one of the Compiled laws. Accompanying these written instruments of law are four journals of conventions called to prepare the constitutions. These volumes are, in essence, minutes of the proceedings, describing the matters considered and affairs dealt with according to the order in which they were brought to the floor. Dates of approved constitutions: 1835, 1850, 1908. Dates of rejected constitutions: 1867, 1873.
